Cultural Trail: alongside Surb and Jewish history

Traces of Jewish history are to found everywhere in Surbtal, between Endingen and Lengnau. The Jewish community has shaped life in the region for over 400 years. Nowhere else in Switzerland is the density of Jewish architectural history as great as it is here.

A glimpse into the past

The Jewish Cultural Trail features 15 fascinating stops, where 21 information panels provide insights into Jewish community life. On the way, visitors can see historic synagogues, old schoolhouses, ritual bathhouses, and the Jewish cemetery. All these sites have a rich history to tell.

Guided tours

Public guided tours are offered twice a year, where experts bring history to life. A private guided tour is also an opportunity to delve deeper into specific topics or experience the Cultural Trail in a smaller, more intimate setting. 

About the visit

It takes two to three hours to take in the Cultural Trail, which can be done in any order.

The stops can be visited at any time. The starting point is the synagogue in either Endingen or Lengnau. The two villages are connected by a public bus.

Those wishing to visit the synagogues and the Jewish cemetery can ask for a key in advance there:

The Jewish cemetery is not open for visits on the Shabbat day (Saturdays).
